Relief valves are a must for every system. They prevent the system reaching undesirable pressures. Most of our directional valves come standard with a relief valve built into them. This however is sometimes not enough, for it may not offer the protection where it is most needed.

Pressure can be created by sources other than the pump. A common form is Load induced.

A tractor with its front-end loader full, driving on undulating ground will encounter pressure fluctuations (intensification). The spikes that are typical with this, can burst hoses or worse. A correctly placed relief will dump the excess pressure.

Relief valves come in many forms, sizes and Types. Two valves side by side, looking exactly the same, may have totally different reaction characteristics. It is important to get it right.
