Cartridge valves are essentially a single block with single or multiple functions incorporated into it by way of screw in cartridges.

There are many types of cartridges. Basically every type of hydraulic valve is available as a cartridge option.

The individual categories each have a range characteristics, flow rates, pressure ranges etc of their own. This means that the same block cavity can receive a variety of cartridges each of which will change the performance or function of the valve.

Some brands use standards that make them interchangeable with each other.
