Piston pumps are high performance and offer long life.

They are traditionally an axial piston design. This makes them contamination intolerant, good filtration is a key factor in life expectancy.

They have features that the more simple pumps don’t, such as work related variable response mechanisms. These are varied.

Variable piston pumps have self adjusting flow rates, making them energy efficient and feature the control options mentioned.

Fixed deliver a constant volume of oil. The absence of control features make them cheaper.
