The use of a cooler can allow for a lot smaller capacity system to be built, saving on construction costs and space. Cooler's level out heat peaks while still allowing optimum operational temperatures to be reached. Extreme heat is not good for the system components.
The heat peaks can also have a detrimental effect on the oil structure and life. This degradation in turn creates premature system wear and more expense.
